Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the slightest of sneeze or sourness in throat is getting people into instant panic mode. People have forgotten that it is officially the season of common cold, cough and fever. The sneezes or fever can also happen due to the seasonal changes. The normal body temperature is 98.6°F (37°C). A fever can be detected when the body temperature is higher than the mentioned. The season of flu is in full force this year. Ayurveda has some time-tested tips and tricks that will help you get relief soon. A few of the ayurvedic tips are listed below.
- Tulsi : Tulsi in ayurvedic science and medicine is considered to be the most effective and most purifying ayurvedic herbs. In ayurveda, it is known as “Mother Medicine of Nature” and “The Queen of Herbs”. It boosts the production of antibodies and which prevents the onset of any infection and has cough relieving properties. It helps soothe the airways by helping you cough out the sticky mucus. You can chew 4-5 tulsi leaves early in the morning which also helps boosts the immunity level. Tulsi kadha or tulsi tea also works best here.
- Honey: Honey has loads of antimicrobial properties and is an effective cough suppressant. It loosens the thick mucus and provides relief from chest congestion it helps you to cough it out and reduces the wet cough. Take a spoon full of honey at night before going to bed so as to reduce the severity of cough or you may also add honey to ginger juice along with a pinch of black pepper.
- Drink water and other fluids: Drinking water and fluids like coconut water, herbal tea, fresh juices, raw fruits and vegetables, soups, etc. keeps your throat, mouth and nose moist. This helps the body to get rid of mucus and phlegm that gets accumulated in the body.
- Take rest: Taking plenty of rest is important when you have flu. It will help you boost the immune system of the body and help the body to fight off the flu viruses.
- Take in Zinc: Zinc is a mineral that plays an important role for your immune system for it makes germ fighting white blood cells. A few researches have shown that zinc helps ease flu and cold symptoms. It helps to fight the flu virus and helps the process slow down i.e., the way it multiplies. You can take foods like red meat, beans, chickpeas, nuts, dairy, eggs, lentils, etc. that have high content of zinc in them.
