Pains in the muscles can occur in the adults as well as in the young ones. In many cases the pain occurs and then resolves on its own without any medical treatment and has nothing to worry about. That being said, sometimes muscle pain can also be a symptom of underlying illness which one may not be able to detect or identity on its own. Lack of sleep, overexertion, stress or minor injuries can be the most common causes of the muscular pain. Sometimes, there are a few underlying diseases and deficiencies in nutrient intake which also causes muscle pain and in this case, a well treatment and consultation of a doctor is a must.
According to Ayurveda, there are some causes recognized for the muscular pain such as built up toxins (ama), Vata aggravation, poor digestion and an imbalanced lifestyle. Mild muscular pains can usually be treated at home and need not be really concerned about. In Ayurvedic terminology, the muscles which are indirectly the skin and ligaments are referred to as Mamsa Dhatu. Mamsa Dhatu is also known to be providing self-confidence, fortitude, strength and courage that generates the means by which one is able to express oneself clearly.
In Ayurveda, the muscle of the body is built from the fire and earth and is driven by the air. The earth is responsible for providing the bulky framework our body has for the muscles. The muscular tissues are highly metabolic in nature. In ayurvedic treatment of muscle pain, there are various home remedies you can take into account like Abhyanga Massage, mustard oil and garlic, Ice packs, Epsom salts,  plenty of sleep and drinking lots of water. Abhyanga Massage is one of the most powerful therapeutic massage that is offered in Ayurvedic treatment of muscular pains. This massage uses powerful medicinal oils like sesame, mustard, lavender and coconut. The oil formed with mustard oil and garlic work as a powerful muscle pain remedy. This oil increases blood flow to the aching area and supports quick healing. Chop 8-10 garlic cloves and add them to 4-5 tablespoons of warm mustard oil. Let the mixture cool. Strain the liquid and massage it onto the aching muscle a few times daily. There is a lot of magnesium sulfate content in Epsom salts which provides lots of muscle pain relief while promoting healing. The hot water will help reduce the muscle stiffness. They help in relaxing not only the muscles but also the mind which promotes the feeling of wellness. Add 1-2 cups of Epsom salt to a warm bath and relax in it for about 20-30 minutes. Do this a few times a week.
