Ashwagandha is rapidly becoming one of the most Popular Ayuevedic Herbs in the West and for good reason with multiple health benefits. It is often called “Indian Ginseng” for its ability to reinforce the immune system. It can reduce anxiety and stress, help fight depression, boost fertility and testosterone in men and may even boost brain function.

Migraine is a neurological disorder which causes annoying throbbing or pulsing attacks which are intense and feels like headaches. The visible symptoms of migraine are nausea, vomiting, sensitivity and to sound and light. It is an attack that may last for 3-4 hours or may extend for 3-4 days.

Migraine is one of the most common disorders of the nervous system which is generally underestimated. According to a study migraine mostly affects people between the age of 35 to 45 years. It also sometimes may hit during the puberty years. It is more common in women because of hormonal influence.

According to the study in ayurvedic sciences, migraine occurs due to the imbalance in the Tridoshas that is vata, pitta and kapha.

There are a few ayurvedic home remedies for migraine which you may try:

  • Try ginger tea: Ginger is considered to be a super food by most of the scientists as it helps in promoting overall health of a person. It is suggested that one must include 2-4 grams of ginger daily to keep healthy.It is known to block prostiglandins (they are the compounds that stimulate muscle contraction) which cause a headache.

    Having ginger tea will also help you relieve from nausea that you may experience during severe migraine.

  • Try inhaling essential oils: If you inhale the soothing scents of certain plants, you then maybe able to reduce from the pain. The essential oils can be of rosemary, lavender or jasmine. It eases the tension directly by attacking the triggers. There can be many trigger points and stress can be one. For stress lavender oil works as a mild sedative that helps to calm down. For treating hormonal imbalances that are one of the major reasons for migraine in women, they can use rosemary oil. Add 5-10 drops of the oil in hot water and take deep breaths so as to inhale the steam.
  • Apply Nutmeg paste: Take a crushed nutmeg powder and mix it with water. Massage the paste on your forehead. It promotes sleep because it helps in relieving the headache. Nutmeg is a spice that induces sleep and keeps you calm and relaxed in any situation.
  • Peppermint: You can try a peppermint tea or massage the peppermint oil and leave it for half an hour. It has anti-inflammatory properties that soothe the nerves. The fragrance of peppermint helps in relieving the headache.
