What is COVID- 19?

It is an infectious disease caused by a recently discovered coronavirus. People who have COVID- 19 experiences mild to moderate illness of the respiratory and can recoup their health without any special treatment. People who are older and have underlying medical conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes are more likely to develop a critical illness.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the age-old (Indian) system of natural medicine. It consists of bio-energies or the three Doshas which are Vata, Pitta, Kapha that can be found in the human body.

Vata: controls the mind, functioning of the heart and some other basic functions of the body.

Pitta: It is responsible for the manufacturing of heat; pitta carries the alteration in our body.

Kapha: It is responsible for the adequate amount body fluids.

Doshas can affect the shape and bodily movements of one’s body

There is no cure for COVID-19 as of now, no vaccine yet has been developed but almost all the countries over the world are making expedient efforts to make the vaccine as soon as possible. Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna has claimed to have found a cure for COVID- 19 through Ayurveda but the claims haven’t been backed by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (MoHFW). the Union Minister of AYUSH Ministry Shripad Naik has also made claims about Ayurveda to soon be able to cure COVID- 19. On the other hand, there were certain asymptomatic people who showed recovery signs through Ayurveda, it has been proved potent in boosting immunity, though there are still active research going on.

The tips we are to follow to combat COVID- 19 are:

  1. Boosting Immunity

A good immunity can fight not just COVID- 19 but also a lot of other viruses.
As per my experience, Ayurveda has proven to be efficient when it comes to boosting immunity. There are certain safe Ayurvedic products that we can consume to boost immunity like Chyavanprash, this is my third month in a row consuming it and I’ve felt a positive immunity kick since I started consuming it. Some other Ayurvedic propriety medicines can also help in boosting immunity.

  1. Social Distancing

Be it Ayurveda, Allopathy, or Homeopathy nothing beats social distancing for now. The very first thing that I will suggest is to always follow the social distancing rules and norms. Since it has been trending for over a period of 6 months now, there must be very few who are unaware of this phrase.

Social distancing is when people of a country/city, place or the world are infected with some kind of infectious germ or pathogen and are to avoid getting in contact with each other to prevent the spreading of the virus, germ or pathogen and to decrease, hinder the transmission of that disease from one person to another. If you are cautious enough to avoid going to crowded place, you are less likely to get COVID- 19 in the first place.

  1. Mindfulness

In these tough times, it’s not just important for the body to be healthy, but the mind as well, as Gurudev Shri Shri Ravi Shankar said ”A strong mind can carry a weak body but a weak mind cannot carry a strong body.” There are some excellent meditation techniques in Ayurveda that promotes mental health amidst this pandemic, which has caused a lot of countries to go into a lockdown it’s very normal for people to get frustrated due to it and in such a situation the mind should stay strong and healthy through guided meditation.

  1. Routine

A good, healthy routine is another important factor that can boost your immunity and help the body gets strong enough to fight COVID-19. Waking up early between 4:30 am – 6:00 am is a good practice, it promotes freshness, and looking at the colours of nature is also good for the eyes. Inhaling steam with essential oils like Tea Tree and Eucalyptus oil is also a good practice to fight common cold and allergies.

After waking up early you should Meditate and then drink lemon water, gargling with ginger soaked water is good for the throat, Putting specific oils in each nostril for Vata, Pitta, Kapha is good too, Doing Surya namaskar or Pranayama, bathing, and then applying essential oils, these practices are good for overall well-being which can also prove effective at some point in fighting COVID- 19.

  1. Using sanitizers

The usage of sanitizer and soap is recommended by the government.

Using alcohol-based sanitizers can kill COVID- 19, we should always carry sanitizers that are alcohol-based and keep applying it whenever we get in possible contact with someone or something. After you buy products from the market you should sanitize them before taking them inside your house. Applying too much sanitizer might damage our skin. While staying indoors you should use soap or hand wash more often, and you should also consider buying alcohol-based sanitizers that are herbal and mild on hands. Other than this wash hands regularly.

  1. Wearing a Mask

COVID- 19 can be transmitted through droplets, wearing a mask can help big time by blocking the passage of the droplets into the mouth, though all kind of masks would work it’s important to discard the masks after a while not all masks are for a longer usage they get worn off, and become ineffective after a stipulated time. While wearing a mask you should avoid touching it from the center but touch it by the straps.

  1. Breathing Exercises

There are some good yoga exercises that can improve the respiratory health like Bhastrika, Nadi shuddi, Kapalbhati, and Anulom vilom these pranayamas can strengthen your lungs and improve its functionality along with improving the concentration, and mental health, it helps the mind to get calmer.

  1. Five Elements

As per Ayurveda, the human body comprises 5 elements:

Element Water which is blood, Element Earth which are muscles and bones, Element Fire which is Heat, Element Air which is Breath, and Element Space which is an emptiness within. There are pranayamas for the purification of the 5 elements that can boost overall health since our body is believed to be made from the four out of the five which we need for combating COVID- 19.

Since, COVID- 19 affects the lungs and the respiratory tract, so here I’ll only tell you about the Air element.

if you want to know more about the purification of the 5 elements you can check that from the link below.

Scientists worldwide are researching COVID- 19 to come up with the vaccine in due time, the best you can do is to be prepared to fight it. If it happens to you, your respiratory health and immunity should be strong enough to fight it.

Traditionally teas were used for medicinal purposes, Herbal teas made with herbs such as licorice and cinnamon are good at fighting infections. Purple coneflower or Echinacea tea has anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties and works as an immunity booster. Other teas like black tea and green tea are loaded free radicals. Ginger and lemon teas are good for digestion, Lemon is loaded with vitamin C while Ginger is good for fighting common cold and flu. All these teas are good for the immune system.

  1. Vitamins

Vitamin D is amongst the effective vitamins which help in promoting immunity. Vitamin C fights infections and is often suggested in treating ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome). So, it’s recommended to take sun bath every day to improve the production of vitamin D in the immunity system. Fruits like oranges, kiwi, lemon and papaya can prevent you from getting sick.

P.S. For now there is no cure for COVID- 19, The best measures that we can take for now is to follow a healthy routine, maintain social distancing, go out only when necessary, use mask to prevent transmission, eat healthy, do some physical exercises under supervision if it involves weight lifting.
